It's not the movements that change us. It's what we learn along the way.

It's not the movements that change us. It's what we learn along the way.

It's not the movements that change us. It's what we learn along the way.

There's a question people ask me from time to time.

“Aren't you bored after twenty years?”

I always smile.

Because honestly, it has never once crossed my mind to be bored.

We use the same reformers.

We build on the same principles.

I've demonstrated many exercises a thousand times.

And yet every day is different.

Do you know why?

Because my work was never really about Pilates.

It was about people.

Everyone arrives with a story

When someone walks through the door of Up Pilates Studio for the first time, not just a new client arrives.

A story arrives too.

A busy mother.

An entrepreneur.

A grandmother.

A young woman who is learning to trust her body again.

Someone who sits in front of a computer all day.

Someone who used to do sports and wants to move again.

Someone who simply wants an hour when they don't have to focus on others.

And for me, every story matters equally.

Maybe that's why I love this vocation so much.

Not because I can teach movement.

But because I get to meet people.

I thought I was the teacher

Today I know that's only half true.

Sure, I show exercises.

I help find the right movement.

I correct posture.

I pay attention to details.

But in the meantime, I also learn a tremendous amount.

I learn that every person struggles differently.

Rejoices differently.

Fears differently.

Becomes brave differently.

And again and again, I experience how much strength there is in people.

Much more than they themselves think.

I honestly believe that you can learn something from everyone.

One client's patience.

Another's perseverance.

Someone's humor.

Someone's curiosity.

Someone who shows how to start over at fifty.

And someone who simply shows how to celebrate a small success.

That's why I feel richer every day when I go home.

The perfect exercise is not the greatest success

Many people think the most beautiful moment for a Pilates teacher is when someone finally performs a difficult exercise.

Sure, that's joy too.

But I'm much more touched by a completely different sentence.

“Guess what, we hiked all weekend and I didn't think about my back once.”

Or:

“I sat down on the floor to play with my grandchild again.”

Or:

“I'm no longer afraid to bend down.”

That's when I truly feel that we didn't just learn a movement.

We got something back from life.

And for me, that is much more important.

That's why I so often say...

We love doing Pilates.

But Pilates itself is not the goal for everyone.

Pilates is a wonderful tool.

The real goal is often to live a joyful, better quality of life.

To have energy.

To move more easily.

To plan more boldly.

So that your body doesn't dictate what plans you take on.

To simply feel good in your own skin.

I am grateful

If more than twenty years have taught me anything, it's gratitude.

I am grateful to everyone who has placed their trust in us.

To those whose lives we can be a small part of for an hour or so.

I am grateful for the conversations.

For the laughter.

For the shared successes.

And also for being reminded every day that movement itself is not the goal.

It's just a path.

A path toward a more active, freer, more joyful life.

And if we can help a little on that path, then it was worth opening the studio door in the morning.

Because in the end, we won't remember how many Pilates classes we attended.

But what kind of life we lived.

And if your body can be your companion in that, then that may be one of the greatest gifts.

Through the body, we help you feel better in your own skin and live the joyful life you want.

That is the mission of Up Pilates Studio.

And I couldn't imagine a more beautiful vocation than this.
