How it all began…

We're talking about the spring and summer of 2006.
Pilates was everywhere. It was coming out of the tap. If I opened a newspaper, it was all about that.
I turned on the radio, and it was pilates this, pilates that. I went online to browse, and it popped up everywhere… At least, that's how it felt to me, because when I talked about it to my friends, they had no idea what I was talking about.
I don't know which was more annoying: that they didn't know what I was talking about, or that I didn't understand what this whole thing was that kept crossing my path.
You see, I used to play sports, and I thought I had body awareness. I did karate, Muay Thai, tennis, but I swear, I didn't understand what they were doing in a Pilates class…. This started to bother me so much that I began to search for where these Pilates classes were in Budapest, and what it even was. Of course, back then there were only a few places, and there was a big difference between them. Naturally, I wanted the best. If we're going to do something, let's do it properly.
And I signed up for a private session.
Well… I was just shaking my head at the instructions, and I felt about as much body awareness as a sack of potatoes… Khmmm.. The whole thing moved me so differently.
After the class, I couldn't properly recall even one exercise I had done, but somehow I felt lighter, somehow it felt better to be in my body.
I very quickly decided that this was what I wanted to do. I would become a Pilates instructor. There was nothing scientific about it. I simply felt in my heart that this was my path. There was no question, only the answer. That this is how I can contribute to helping people. And of course, myself. So that I also feel good in my own skin.
I thought this was, on one hand, incredibly good, enjoyable, healthy, and on the other hand, difficult enough to meet my threshold for stimulation and provide a continuous challenge. By the way, I put this together in retrospect; back then, I just felt: this is it.
At that time, I was working in an office as a graduate economist, and I was involved in foreign trade. I liked that too.
But this gives something entirely different. The guests who return week after week, the smiles, the successes we achieve with my guests, the fact that we realize their goals, and I can help them with that – that's a completely different feeling. It's worth getting up for this; this is what I can do with all my heart. Every single day.
Even after more than 10,000 taught hours, I still consider this system a miracle, and I am grateful to Joseph H. Pilates for developing this method. It fascinates me to this day. And I'm currently reading a book about his work, about how he taught. This guy is brilliant.
And it reassures me that I studied in the right place, where they passed on, and still pass on through further training, this spirit to me, and I am truly carrying on his legacy.
From the book, I've now gained new momentum, new perspectives, new understanding. I can't wait to get my hands on my clients! 😀
Joe simply teaches you how to treat your body well.
