5 tips to ensure your New Year's resolution – regular exercise – doesn't remain just an empty promise

The beginning of the new year is full of momentum, plans, and big resolutions. "From now on, I'll exercise regularly!" – many declare in the first days of January. However, statistics show that most resolutions fade by February. Not because you lack willpower, but because the system you base your resolution on is not well-structured.
As a Pilates instructor and studio manager, within the walls of UP Pilates Studio, I see every day what works – and what doesn't. Here are 5 practical tips to truly stick with exercise this year. ✨
1️⃣ Don't set a goal – build a system
"I'll exercise 3 times a week" is not enough on its own. When? Where? With what?
Schedule your workouts in your calendar in advance, as if they were important meetings. If it doesn't have a place in your life, it won't happen.
💡 Tip: choose fixed days and times – don't leave the decision to your momentary mood.
2️⃣ Choose an exercise your body also loves
Your body always signals. If you're tired after a workout but feel recharged, you're on the right track. If every session is a struggle, you'll eventually quit.
Pilates, for example, is not "just" exercise:
– develops body awareness
– improves posture
– strengthens while being gentle on the joints
This is why it can be sustainable in the long term.
3️⃣ Start with a smaller commitment
You don't have to change everything at once. Too high expectations lead to quick burnout.
🎯 Start like this:
– 1–2 sessions per week
– shorter but regular workouts
– focus on habit formation, not perfection
Consistency is always stronger than enthusiasm.
4️⃣ Ask for help – you don't have to do it alone
A good instructor doesn't just show exercises, but also:
– pays attention to you
– corrects
– motivates
– helps set realistic goals
When someone is counting on you, it's much easier to show up – even after a tiring day.
5️⃣ Connect exercise with "me-time"
Don't view exercise as a punishment. Let it be the point in your day when you focus on yourself.
Music, silence, conscious breathing, a slower pace – all these help not only your body but also your nervous system to regenerate.
If the workout feels good, you'll return to it.
In summary
New Year's resolutions are not a test of willpower. They are much more a matter of self-awareness and good structure.
If you build a system, pay attention to your body's signals, and don't try to solve everything alone, exercise won't be a burden – but a natural part of your life.
If you want to truly succeed this year, we'd be happy to help you – step by step. 🤍
Your body will thank you for it.
