Pilates is a mindful, mind-body movement form that helps to restore muscle balance, improve posture and reduce stress.
Each exercise is built around correct breathing technique and controlled movements - safely yet effectively shaping the body, regardless of age or fitness level.
Pilates exercises emphasise correct breathing and posture, and in doing so, create a closer connection between body and mind (body&mind movement). Pilates practitioners are aware of their bodies and how they can control the movement of their muscles. Not least, correct breathing reduces stress and tension.
Pilates also works the core of the body, the deep abdominal muscles and the muscle groups closest to the spine, strengthening them and promoting correct, graceful posture. And a pretty tummy is just the bonus!
Classic exercise programmes are tiring and result in short, big muscles - but this type is the most at risk of injury. Pilates stretches and strengthens muscles, increasing their flexibility and joint mobility. Flexible and strong muscles are less likely to get injured, which is why professional athletes take up Pilates.
Most exercises should be done in a lying or sitting position. Pilates causes a slight increase in heart rate, which can help you burn calories and lose weight. Pilates is such a safe form of exercise that it can even be used for rehabilitation purposes, but it is definitely recommended after rehabilitation!
Pilates is not a boring, aimless, repetitive method. Set yourself clearly defined goals and achieve them by gradually increasing the intensity of your workout. Become sexier, more flexible, live the quality of life you've always wanted!
We mentioned that Pilates focuses on the centre of the body, but that doesn't mean it doesn't move the joints or even the small muscles of the feet. Unlike other forms of exercise, Pilates does not focus on a specific muscle group. It moves the whole body with each workout, allowing you to strengthen all the muscles.
Do you want personalised attention or do you have individual goals? In our individual classes, we are fully personalised to you: the exercises are tailored to your fitness, health and goals. So your progress can be faster, safer and more effective.
If you like to move in a community and are inspired to grow with others, our group Pilates classes are for you. The group sessions are energising, motivating and fun - while you shape your body and mind under the guidance of an expert instructor.
In addition to the ballet barre, Total Barre™ workouts also feature a soft ball, hand weights and a Pilates mat. These tools help you to perform certain exercises.
Total Barre™ is a form of exercise that works the whole body. It is based on the use of the ballet barre, combining elements of Pilates, dance, yoga, functional training and cardio. Choreographed to modern music, the movements are usually simple yet varied.
No. The choreography of Total Barre™ is basically simple, so even those with no dance experience can try it. Not only is it safe and effective, it's also great fun! It's easy on the joints, so it's suitable for all ages.
This energetic and dynamic form of exercise is based on the correct execution of biomechanical movements. This improves strength, flexibility and endurance. The Total Barre™ also stretches short, spastic muscles and promotes good posture by strengthening the back muscles.
The class starts with a warm-up and then moves into a more intense cardio workout. Meanwhile, the whole body is worked. Legs, core, arms are strengthened in a nice sequence, alternating segment by segment. The workout ends with lighter and slower movements.
As far as clothing is concerned, sports pants and a T-shirt are perfect. The main thing is to feel good in your clothes! You can leave your trainers at home, as Total Barre™ workouts should be done barefoot or in socks. Be prepared not to get it all at once. Although the choreography is not too complicated, you will need a couple of workouts to get all the moves right. Arrive 10 minutes early for class. You'll need this time to get your props, put your things away, change and get to know the others without rushing. Prepare for muscle fever! Yes, after your first workout, you're bound to ache even in muscles you didn't know you had. But that just means you've done the exercises right! What do you bring with you? A towel and water, because you're bound to sweat! As the workout is quite tiring, you can also bring a healthy snack for after the workout.
