In recent years the reformer Pilates has gained huge popularity. Beautiful machines, spectacular exercises, elegant moves - it captivates many people instantly. And understandably so.
But there is something that fewer people see beneath the surface.
Pilates is actually not a machine, not a trend and not just a form of exercise.
A Pilates a system.
A system of movement that becomes truly understandable and effective when we see the whole picture.
The reformer is only part of it.
There is also the Pilates on the floorwhere the principles are born.
There are the Chair, Barrel and Cadillac machines that teach movement from a completely different perspective.
And there are the small tools - balls, rubber bands, hoops - to help you feel, activate, refine.
When an instructor knows all this, that's when the real magic happens.
Because from then on, you're not teaching a template.
But teach you.
Your body.
Your movement patterns.
Your current state.
A good teacher will not ask:
"What should we do today on the reformer?"
It is:
- Where can this practice best to help?
- Shall we learn on the ground first?
- Does the Chair provide the right challenge?
- Can Cadillac help you find stability?
- A little ball helps at last feel that musclethat you didn't know before?
This is one of the greatest strengths of Pilates.
It doesn't force you to make a move.
It teaches you to work with your body.
Many of our guests say after a while:
"It's like learning to move again."
And that's exactly right.
During Pilates relearning movement patterns.
We learn to use our muscles.
We learn to feel our body.
And something very special happens.
Start change your relationship with your body.
It will not be an enemy.
Not a project to be improved.
Not a problem to be solved.
But a partner.
A system that works for you.
And when that relationship starts to develop, that's when the point happens that we as educators are always happy to see.
When someone says:
"Somehow... I feel more comfortable in my skin now."
And, interestingly, this change is not just in the way we move.
As a side effect, something else happens.
People are starting to:
- pay more attention to themselves
- take better care of themselves
- to look at themselves differently
And they often start love themselves a little more.
Not perfectly.
But more honestly.
From Up in Pilates Studio in fact, that's what we had in mind when they came in.
It's not just what exercise to do.
It is that:
How we can help you to get closer to that body and lifewhat you want.
How we can help you achieve your goals.
And how can we make you see it in the mirror those wonderful creaturesthat we see in you.
And the truth is...
We still have lots of ideas.
Things that can help give you even more - in exercise, in health, and in have fun in your own life.
You will soon find out.
But in the meantime, we are curious to hear from you.
Write to us:
- What do you need?
- What could help even more?
- How can we be better?
Help us grow - so we can help you even better.
With love,
