As we practice how to be present in the moment, we become more aware of what is happening within and around us. When we are mindful, we are better able to sense what is going on in our body, how it is responding to the environment, and how it relates to our brain. All this helps us to be more agile, and it also has an impact on our health.<\/p>\n<p><strong>You will have better coordination and balance.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>If someone is clumsy, it usually means that they have low body awareness. In other words, even if they can sense what is happening in and around them, their reaction is poor. Helping the brain connect to the weight and movement of your body improves coordination and balance. How? Try to consciously focus on each part of your body and how it is positioned in space.<\/p>\n<p><strong>We can make better decisions about our health.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>According to some research, roughly 12 million adults in the United States are misdiagnosed - and even more are undiagnosed with an existing condition. We can blame doctors, but we need to know our bodies best ourselves. If we are body-aware, we can sense almost immediately if something is wrong. We can then spot problems earlier and better communicate our experiences to our doctor. The body will always tell you if something is wrong. Our job is to respond well to these messages.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Body awareness can shed light on food sensitivities.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Allergies, poor sleeping habits and digestive problems are mostly linked to food. Stomach acid, headaches, bloating, aches and pains and feelings of tiredness are all signs that something is wrong - and instead of finding out what's causing the problem, we get used to it.<\/p>\n<p>This can lead to chronic health problems in the long term, which can have a significant impact on quality of life and life expectancy. However, if we pay attention to our bodies, we can easily find out which foods to eliminate from our diet.<\/p>\n<p><strong>It makes it easier to lose weight.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>According to research by Stephanie Fay, 75 percent of people eat even when they are not hungry. Being able to tell when you are hungry and when you are full is closely linked to body awareness. And knowing when we really need food and when we want to eat because we're bored or because our company is eating can make a significant contribution to losing weight or maintaining a healthy weight.<\/p>\n<p>Eating in company is the biggest problem for people who want to lose weight. We're not going to drool and watch other people eat - but if we feel we're not hungry, order a smaller portion or have a salad! That way, we don't have to miss out on a shared experience, but we're still looking after our health.<\/p>\n<p><strong>It allows you to control your body language.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>According to Dr Albert Mehrabian, 93 percent of communication is non-verbal. Body-conscious people know how they sit or stand and what is radiating from their face - so they don't have to worry about someone misinterpreting their gestures. It is very common for our posture to show something different from what we feel. But through body awareness, we can always show what we want to show.<\/p>\n<p><strong>How to learn body awareness?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>You can choose between different methods, but we would like to highlight Pilates. Pilates is an easy, playful and natural way to become body aware without any difficulty. You won't feel like you are learning it on purpose, it will come naturally. Besides, Pilates has many other benefits that make it even more worth trying.<\/p>\n<p>Body awareness ensures that every moment is experienced in its raw reality, and that every emotion is felt to the maximum. When we focus on the body, it is easier to let go of the past and not stress about the future. We become more relaxed, our heartbeat calms down, our cortisol levels decrease...
